Dien Khanh District

Population: 142.706 persons
Density of population: 270 person/km2

This is an inland district, bordering Ninh Hoa District to the north, Nha Trang City to the east, Cam Ranh and Khanh Son Districts to the south, and Khanh Vinh District to the west. The total natural area is 33.620 ha, its population is 142.706 persons with a density of 270 person per sq. km. The inhabitants of the district live mainly on agriculture, trading and handicrafts.

The capital of the district is Thanh Town, a kind of ancient citadel built by Lord Anh in 1793 after the Vauban pattern, a military architectural model popular in the 17th and 18th centuries in Western Europe. Dien Khanh Citadel, Hue Citadel are the two unspoilt feudal fortresses that still exist in Vietnam. Thanh Town is 10 km from Nha Trang to the west, situated immediately on the right of National Highway 1 in the north-south direction.  

Dien Khanh District has some place names linked with heroic traditions of Khanh Hoas people such as the junction of Cay Dau Doi, Hon Du base, Tu Thon Dai Dien base, the Ancient Citadel...

Dien Khanh consists of an area of majestic terrain of rivers and mountains, especially with Cai River the greatest river in the province and its affluent. In the area, there are famous mountains such as Ong Mount, Ba Mount, Co Mount, Cau Mount, in which Ba Mount soars up to 1,574m above sea level.

The landscape of Dien Khanh offers quite a few natural wonders such as Dai An, Chua Temple, Ngo Stream, Do Stream, Tien Stream, Truong Tien Mountain... Dien Khanh is also the place which bears major historical evidence of Khanh Hoa like the memorial sites of Dr. Yersin, Vo Canh Stele, Huynh Thuc Khang Temple, Trinh Phong Temple, Tran Quy Cap Temple, the Temple of Literature...

Dien Khanh has a considerable reserve of kaolin a good condition for developing the china and ceramic profession, as well as construction materials. In addition, high-quality mineral water in the district, an endless resource at  Danh Thanh, Dien Tan Commune has been exploited to produce mineral water of widespread use.

Suoi Dau IZ in Dien Khanh was established in 1998 with a total investment capital of VND 197 billion to serve a multi-sectored investment. The IZ is built on a 150-ha area which can be expanded to 300 ha. At present, the first stage of construction has been completed (79 ha with a capital of VND 99 billion). The second stage of investment is now under way on the remaining 73 ha.

The trans-Viet railway passes through Dien Khanh District with two stations: Cay Cay and Suoi Dau.
