Khanh Hoa aims to sustainable tourism development

On December 23, Khanh Hoa Province People's Committee held a meeting to summarize the 5 years of implementing the action program of Khanh Hoa tourism for the period of 2015 - 2020. Attending the event were Tran Manh Dung - Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Council, Le Huu Hoang - Permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee and representatives of departments, sectors, localities and tourism enterprises in the province.

Strong growth before the Covid-19 epidemic

According to the report of the provincial People's Committee, during the past 5 years, Khanh Hoa tourism has made a strong development; main norms on tourism have increased by 15 - 20%/year. Up to now, the province has 1,113 hotels and resorts with more than 50,000 rooms, including 125 hotels and resorts of 3 - 5 stars. In particular, in the period of 2016 - 2019, the total number of guests staying in Khanh Hoa reached nearly 23.2 million, including 9.55 million international ones; tourism revenue increased by more than 26%/year. By 2019, the tourism sector contributed about 12.3% of the province's GRDP. The growth of the tourism industry has partly raised its proportion in the economic restructure of the province, having a strong impact on the development of other economic sectors, especially bringing about high efficiency in creating jobs and ensuring the social security of the province.

However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the world, Khanh Hoa tourism in 2020 has been gone down deeply. The number of visitors to the province in 2020 is estimated to be about 1.2 million, down nearly 82.3% compared to the figure in 2019. The total revenue from tourism of the whole province this year is estimated to be about 6,946 billion VND, down nearly 82.7%.

To restructure tourism activities

In order to make Khanh Hoa tourism a key economic sector, Khanh Hoa Province People's Committee has determined that, in the period of 2021 - 2025, the province’s tourism needs to implement a tourism development strategy in both width and depth, towards the sustainable development. Accordingly, Khanh Hoa will restructure tourism activities to ensure 3 main goals: developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector, developing tourism sustainably with green growth, and doing tourism exploitation with focus, towards improving quality and professionalism.

In order to achieve this goal, in the coming time, the Provincial People's Committee will direct the tourism industry and related industries to perform key and breakthrough tasks such as developing and implementing the tourist product project and the tourist market project suitable with tourism potentials of the province, the tourism brand project, the human resource project and projects on parking.

Implementing comprehensive solutions

Speaking as the conclusion of the conference, Vice-chairman of the province Le Huu Hoang emphasized that the recovery and development of tourism in the coming time still face many difficulties. Therefore, it needs joining hands of state management agencies, organizations and individuals doing tourism services to promptly transform and create a breakthrough to attract tourists to return Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa and improve competitiveness for the province.

Mr. Le Huu Hoang suggested departments, branches and localities in the province implementing solutions to enhance the application of information technology in tourism management and administration, partlty meeting changes after the Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time, the digital communication system for Khanh Hoa tourism promotion and communication solutions will be put into operation, gradually replacing the old communication methods that are no longer suitable with current market trends. He suggested tourism businesses keeping investment in improving the quality of tourism products and diversifying products; having plans to train and foster professional skills and foreign language skills to improve the quality of human resources; proactively coordinating in the promotion and marketing to attract other international tourist markets… In the long run, the departments , branches and localities shall consult and propose preferential policies to attract investment projects in entertainment areas, high-end shopping, night markets, arts performing spots ... to improve the quality of tourism services of the province.
