 Conference on Vietnam's tourism development strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2050

(TITC) – On the morning of 10 October, 2018, in Hanoi, Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism held a seminar on Vietnam tourism development strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2050.

The conference was attended by General Director Nguyen Van Tuan; Deputy General Director Ha Van Sieu; Deputy General Director Ngo Huai Chung; leaders of departments and units

 under Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism; representatives of Tourism Department, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of provinces leading in tourism together with representatives of travel agents, hotels and journalists.

Addressing the opening of the conference, General Director Nguyen Van Tuan emphasized that in recent years Vietnam's tourism has developed rapidly, creating many breakthroughs. The targets set for 2020 are basically completed and achieved by 2017. In the first nine months of this year, Vietnam has welcomed more than 11.6 million international visitors, an increase of 22.9% over the same period in 2017. It is estimated that by the end of 2018, international tourists will reach the figure of 15, 6 - 15.7 million.

With such rapid development, according to the Director General, to adapt to the trend and development of tourism in the context of digital technology that is increasingly modern, a refreshing vision is needed. Therefore, the preparation of Vietnam Tourism Development Strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2050 is crucial.

In 2017, the Politburo issued a resolution on developing tourism into a key economic sector. At the same time, many documents and policies have been issued to encourage and support tourism development. Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism has developed five projects (Tourism Restructuring, Vietnam Tourism Development Strategy to 2030, vision to 2050, Overall application of IT in Tourism; Improvement of tourism promotion and broadcasting's efficiency, Establishment of Tourism Development Assistance Fund). These are the key projects to create a theoretical and practical basis, contributing to the development of tourism in Vietnam and the acceleration in the coming time.

Conference overall picture

The General Director expected that through the conference Vietnam National Administration of Tourism would receive comments and contributions from delegates to complete the Strategy soon which is expected to be submitted to the Government by the end of the year.

At the conference, leaders of the Institute for Tourism Development (Vietnam National Administration of Tourism) presented an overview of the Tourism Development Strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2050. The report has analysed current status and resources available for tourism development; context and trend of tourism development in Vietnam; Views on tourism development; Target; Implementation solution.

The delegates appreciated the necessity of developing the Strategy in line with the trend of world tourism gradually becoming an important economic sector. Also, the delegates contributed their opinions on the way to address issues with the focus on implementation solutions, especially on human resources, infrastructure, tourism products, tourism promotion and broadcasting and international integration, application of modern digital technology to develop smart tourism in the context of the booming and world wide 4.0 industry revolution.
