 Announcement of “Clean Up the World 2018” Campaign

Activities have organized to respond to the Clean Up the World 2018 Campaign themed "Waste Management for Sustainable Rural Environment" taken the initiative in 1993 by Australia, launched on a global scaleby the United Nations (UNEP) ) and held on thethird week in September every year.

Under the direction of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment will inform agencies, enterprises and tourists about a number of activities related to the strategy as follows:

- The departments, divisions, the People's Committee of the city, district and political organizations organize activities of solid waste collection and treatment.

- Preliminarilyevaluating and proposing practical solutions for implementation of the Prime Minister's Decision No. 582/QD-TTg dated April 11, 2013 on enhancing the control of environment pollution due to the use of non-biodegradable plastic bags by 2020; Carrying out plastic wastes and plastic bags.

- Launching campaigns for community participation in gathering and recovering post-use plant protection chemicals packets in accordance with Joint Circular No. 05/2016/TTLT-BNNPTTN-BTNMT dated 15 /05/2016 ofthe Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in coordination with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on guidance of the collection, transport and handling of post-use plant protection chemicals packets.

- Strengthening the effectiveness of environmental management and dealing with urgent environmental issues under the Prime Minister's Directive No. 25/CT-TTgdated August 31, 2016.

- Coordinating closely with media, press, radio and television agencies to increase information and communication on environmental protection works and activities in response to the Clean Up the World 2018 Campaign in various forms: treating rural solids, recovering post-use plant protection chemicals, encouraging farmers not to burn straw after harvest, constructing specialized farm , writing articles and reports encouraging people to participate in the environmental protection and hanging banners and posters on the topic of environmental protection in public places, main streets, offices work and other crowded places to remind people to take action to protect the environment.

- Concentrating on solving major environmental problems, environmental polluting spots under the responsibility of agencies and units, intensifying the inspection and supervision of establishments which are likely to pollute the environment. Coordinating with producers in organization of a recycling festival for the purpose of collecting and recovering disposed products, especially electronic waste such as disposable batteries, disposable fluorescent lamps to avoid disposed together with rural domestic wastes.

- For agencies and units located in coastal areas, it is necessary to intensify activities to clean up the environment at the beaches and coastal areas, focusing on collectingplastic products, plastic bags and transport them to the place of recycling and treatment according to regulations. Organizing the handover of beaches and coastal areas cleaned up to the organizations and units responsible for management so that the pollution of the marine environment is not recurrent.
